Nerve supply to a superior rectus and levator palpebrae superioris muscles
The muscles have been elevated. Branches of the superior division of the oculomotor nerve(16) enter the superior rectus muscle. Branches of the nerve also pass through the muscle or along its medial border to reach the inferior surface of the levator palpebrae superioris muscle(12).
1 . Supraorbital nerve
2 . Branches of oculomotor nerve (III) entering levator palpebrae superioris muscle
3 . Upper pointer: Superior rectus muscle Lower pointer: Fascia extending between borders of superior and lateral rectus muscles
4 . Sheath of optic nerve
5 . Posterior ciliary arteries (long and short)
6 . Insertion of inferior oblique muscle
7 . Insertion of lateral rectus muscle
8 . Short ciliary nerves
9 . Inferior rectus muscle
10 . Branch of oculomotor nerve to inferior oblique muscle
11 . Mucoperiosteum of maxillary sinus
12 . Levator palpebrae superioris muscle
