To review your checked out items and renew items online, login into Lane Catalog. You can also contact us by email, phone, or in person at the Information Desk to renew materials.

Renewal Limits
  • Borrowed materials may be renewed up to two times by phone, email or in-person.
  • To renew a third time, you must renew the item in person.
  • You can not renew recalled materials

Return

  • Our book drop is located outside the library main entrance. You can return items to the book drop anytime.
  • 2-hour loan materials must be returned inside the library at the Information Desk to avoid late fees.
  • Late returns will incur fines.
  • Books borrowed from other campus libraries may be returned to Lane Library. These books are picked up at Lane Library each morning, Monday – Friday, by the campus mail courier. We cannot guarantee that books will arrive at the appropriate library in time to avoid overdue fines.

Some print books and journal issues are stored offsite. You may request them through the Lane Catalog using the "Request/Recall Items" link.

Recalling Materials Checked Out by Another User

You can recall 28-day-loan materials after the initial user has held the item for two weeks. Locate the Lane catalog record for the item and click on “Request/Recall Items.”

Course reserve materials are checked out on a first come/first served basis. If a reserve item is checked out, please visit the Information Desk and ask to be placed in the hold queue for that item.

  • When the reserve item is available, you will be notified by phone or email.
  • Once notified, the reserve item will be held for 15 minutes.
  • After that time, the hold will be cancelled, and the item will be made available to the next patron.

Returning Materials That Have Been Recalled

If the library contacts you (by mail or phone) to recall materials you have checked out, please return them within five days. If not returned within five days, the recalled material is considered overdue. A fine of $1 per day is assessed until the item is returned. If the material is not returned, overdue fines and replacement costs are applied.

Recalled materials cannot be renewed.

Fines

All overdue fines are $1/day to a maximum of $30.

Overdue Fine Exceptions
  • 2-hour course reserves loans: $1/hour to a maximum of $30
  • 2-hour equipment loans: $1/hour to a maximum of $30
  • 28-day course reserves loans: $3/day to a maximum of $30

All fines must be paid at the Information Desk; cash, checks, Visa and Mastercard are accepted.

All materials are considered overdue if you have not returned them by the specified date. Your borrowing privileges can be blocked immediately until the late fee is paid or the material is returned. A courtesy reminder and two overdue notices will be sent via email. If these notices are not received, you are still held responsible for any late fee. If Lane Library receives no response to the overdue notices, an invoice, including replacement costs and an irrevocable late fee of $10 per item, will be sent. In some cases, when there is no response to the late fee notice, a copy of this notice will be sent to your department. A hold will be placed on student registration for any outstanding materials or fines.

  • Lane Library restarted the accrual of fines on July 31, 2021.
  • The fines accrued during the COVID-19 pandemic between March 17, 2020 to July 31, 2021 are waived.
  • Fines accrued before the COVID-19 pandemic still stand.
