Dissection of posterior aspect of left leg
Muscles, blood vessels and nerves of lower leg ankle, posterior view
The crural fascia has been removed, although nerves and vessels that lay superficial to it have been retained. The flexor retinaculum (15) at the ankle has been opened to expose the posterior tibial vessels and the tibial nerve. Fat has been removed deep to the calcaneal tendon. The spiraling course of the fibres of the calcaneal tendon is evident in the photograph.
