Summary: Although many published tests are available to assess student learning problems, they vary greatly in technical adequacy and ability to usefully direct remediation plans. Curriculum-Based Measurement (CBM) was created to reliably quantify student performance, and directly affect individual problem solving. Curriculum-Based Measurement and Special Services for Children is a concise and convenient guide to CBM that demonstrates why it is a valuable assessment procedure, and how it can be effectively utilized by school professionals. Featuring contributions from the core group of researchers and school-based practitioners who originally developed and implemented CBM, this work expands upon the initial efforts to use behaviorally based evaluation methodologies, providing a system for making a continuum of special education decisions. A general overview of CBM is provided in Part One. The underlying philosophy of CBM and its tenets are examined in depth, especially as they relate to special education. Also included is a case study showing how CBM is used -- from part of the special education decision-making process. Part Two focuses on procedures for implementing CBM procedures for screening and eligibility determinations, including the development and use of local norms at a variety of levels, from the classroom to the school district . The key factors to be considered -- and the specific procedures to be followed. Nielsen 9780898622317 20160528
