- ArticleSakizadeh M, Rodríguez Martín JA.Chemosphere. 2021 Apr;268:129347.In this study, concentrations of cadmium using 3778 samples encompassing the total size of Spain (about 505 km2) were investgated. Two novel spatial methods namely Moran eigenvector spatially varying coefficient (MESVC) and spatially filtered unconditional quantile regression (SF-UQR) were employed with the aim of avoiding the problem of local collinearity which is prevalent in regression models. Additionally, the spatially varying coefficients methods were applied to assess the influence of soil properties together with soil texture on the spatial variations of cadmium. It was indicated that the overall level of cadmium is low compared to the concentrations found around the world. In particular, the values of Cd varied between 0.01 and 2.00 mgkg-1, with the median of 0.23 mgkg-1. The residual standard error and adjusted R2 produced by MESVC were 0.16 and 0.69, respectively which are better than 0.21 and 0.39 yielded by the SF-UQR model. Both of these models outperformed compared to the geographically weighted regression (GWR) and the performance of MESVC was also better than the traditional method of kriging. For instance, in terms of willmott index (d) and root mean squared relative error (RMSRE), the MESVC had superior performance with values equal to 0.612 and 0.275 compared to 0.399 and 0.379 obtained for the ordinary kriging. The MESVC and GWR demonstrated that CaCO3, sand, silt and clay had a negligible influence on spatial variations of cadmium whereas, EC had the largest contribution followed by SOM and pH.

Here, we proposed an immunochromatographic assay (ICA) with multiplex analysis ability and high sensitivity for direct detection of bacteria in real food samples, based on an improved surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) sensing strategy. Multifunctional Au shell-coated graphene oxide nanosheets (GO@Au) were fabricated and for the first time introduced into the ICA system as a two-dimensional film-like SERS label, which possessed huge surface area, excellent stability, and superior SERS activity. Different from the conventional spherical nanotags, the antibody-conjugated GO@Au nanosheet effectively and rapidly adhered to bacterial cells, improved the dispersibility of bacteria-nanolabel complexes on the ICA strips, and provided numerous stable hotspots for SERS signal enhancement. The combination of GO@Au labels and the ICA system achieved the multiplex and ultrasensitive determination of three major foodborne pathogens, namely, Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli O157:H7, and Salmonella typhimurium, in a single test, with low detection limits (8, 10, and 10 cells/mL) and short detection time (20 min). The proposed biosensor demonstrated high stability and good accuracy in various food samples and is thus a promising tool for the rapid identification of bacteria.

The procedure objective was multiplying antioxidant effects of the hydrolysate complexed with furcellaran. Films were used on Atlantic mackerel (storage 4 °C, 15 days); samples were analysed for changes in microbiological quality, TVB-N, biogenic amine content, fatty acid composition, TBARS. Consumer analysis was performed characterising mackerel carcass perception depending on implemented active coatings. The developed innovative single- and double-layer coatings effectively slow down lipid oxidation processes, especially at the initial period of Atlantic mackerel storage in refrigerated conditions. The coatings effectively inhibited microorganism growth, extending shelf-life by 2 days, single-layer coatings showing greater efficiency. According to consumers, coating application did not adversely affect product attractiveness parameters. The developed innovative coatings show great applicative potential as a new active packaging for perishable foods.
- ArticleZhu Z, Zhang X, Zhou L, Wu Z, Zhang K, Ruth G, Wu P.Bioresour Technol. 2023 Sep;384:129347.For achieving efficient and robust treatment of domestic sewage with C/N around 2.8, this study innovatively developed an integrated fermentation, partial-nitrification, partial-denitrification and anammox (IFPNDA) process based on the Anaerobic Baffled Reactor and Continuous-flow Stirred Tank Reactor (ABR-CSTR) bioreactor. Desirable N-removal efficiency of 87.5 ± 2.1% was obtained without external organics, correspondingly effluent total nitrogen (TN) concentration reached 6.1 ± 0.7 mg/L. The N-removal stability was greatly facilitated by the effective linkage between partial nitrification (PN) process and partial denitrification (PD) process in emergency. Highly enriched hydrolytic bacteria (6.9%) and acidogenic bacteria (5.7%) in A1, especially Comamonas (2.8%) and Longilinea (3.5%), induced the significant increase of volatile fatty acids (VFAs) in domestic sewage. Thauera (6.1%) in A2 and Nitrosomonas (5.4%) in A3 acted as the dominant flora of nitrite supplies for anammox in IFPNDA process. Candidatus_Brocadia (2.4%) dominated the advanced nitrogen removal. The IFPNDA process exhibited much potential for achieving energy neutrality during wastewater treatment.
- ArticleYao X, Tang P, Li Z, Li D, Liu Y, Huang H.PLoS One. 2015;10(6):e0129347.Actinidia chinensis is an important economic plant belonging to the basal lineage of the asterids. Availability of a complete Actinidia chloroplast genome sequence is crucial to understanding phylogenetic relationships among major lineages of angiosperms and facilitates kiwifruit genetic improvement. We report here the complete nucleotide sequences of the chloroplast genomes for Actinidia chinensis and A. chinensis var deliciosa obtained through de novo assembly of Illumina paired-end reads produced by total DNA sequencing. The total genome size ranges from 155,446 to 157,557 bp, with an inverted repeat (IR) of 24,013 to 24,391 bp, a large single copy region (LSC) of 87,984 to 88,337 bp and a small single copy region (SSC) of 20,332 to 20,336 bp. The genome encodes 113 different genes, including 79 unique protein-coding genes, 30 tRNA genes and 4 ribosomal RNA genes, with 16 duplicated in the inverted repeats, and a tRNA gene (trnfM-CAU) duplicated once in the LSC region. Comparisons of IR boundaries among four asterid species showed that IR/LSC borders were extended into the 5' portion of the psbA gene and IR contraction occurred in Actinidia. The clap gene has been lost from the chloroplast genome in Actinidia, and may have been transferred to the nucleus during chloroplast evolution. Twenty-seven polymorphic simple sequence repeat (SSR) loci were identified in the Actinidia chloroplast genome. Maximum parsimony analyses of a 72-gene, 16 taxa angiosperm dataset strongly support the placement of Actinidiaceae in Ericales within the basal asterids.

However, many of the current tubulin inhibitors are derived from complex natural products and suffer from multidrug resistance, low solubility, toxicity issues, and/or the lack of multi-cancer efficacy. As such, there is a continued need for the discovery and development of new anti-tubulin drugs to enter the pipeline. Herein we report on a group of indole-substituted furanones that were prepared and tested for anti-cancer activity. Molecular docking studies showed positive correlations between favorable binding in the colchicine binding site (CBS) of tubulin and anti-proliferative activity, and the most potent compound was found to inhibit tubulin polymerization. These compounds represent a promising new structural motif in the search for small heterocyclic CBS cancer inhibitors.
- ArticleFei Z, Xie H, Xie D, Wang M, Du Q, Jin P.Int J Biol Macromol. 2024 Mar;260(Pt 1):129347.Herein, the low-molecular-weight heteropolysaccharide (designated as TABP), with a weight-average Mw of 5408 Da, was produced by the endophytic bacterium Bacillus sp. TAB, which was initially isolated from the fruiting bodies of the wild Tremella aurantialba. A relatively high TABP accumulation was obtained and enhanced to 6.94 g/L in 5 L fed-batch fermentation by high-density cultivation. Monosaccharide composition analysis showed that the TABP comprised arabinose, glucosamine, galactose, glucose, and mannose with a molar ratio of 0.073: 0.145: 0.406: 0.182: 0.195, respectively. Methylation and NMR analyses indicated that TABP contained 1,4-linked β-d-Galp and 1,4-linked β-d-Manp pyranosyl backbone, extensively substituted at the side chains to form a complex structure. Prebiotic potential analysis exhibited significant growth-promoting effects for various lactic acid bacteria by more than 90 %. Overall, this study initially provides valuable insights into the endophytic exopolysaccharides from T. aurantialba and their biological activity, which provides prospective sources of prebiotics for functional foods and aids in understanding the endophytes symbiosis mechanism in edible mushrooms.
