- ArticleStahl FW, Stahl MM.Genetics. 1977 Aug;86(4):715-25.Chi in phage lambda is a genetic element increasing the rate of recombination in its vicinity. Chi activity requires the wild-type functions of both the recA and the recB genes of E. coli. In terms of the pathway concept for recombination, Chi is active in the RecBC pathway and inactive in the Red, RecE., and RecF pathways.
