A 3-year longitudinal study on kindergarteners revealed an increase in the number of children having need for dental treatment, from 30.1% in the youngest age-group to 58.7% in the oldest age-group. In the framework of a program of general dental treatment, dental examinations were conducted by stomatologists of Halle on the oldest age-groups. The following results were obtained: children who had received complete dental treatment, 71%; children who had received partial dental treatment, 13%; and children who had received no dental treatment, 16%. As only group treatment will ensure optimal treatment results, whereby the attitude of the kindergarten teachers is of considerable importance, its inclusion in the educational programs of the kindergartens is advocated.
