- ArticleSchwartzkopff W, Jantke HJ.MMW Munch Med Wochenschr. 1978 Nov 24;120(47):1575-8.In a trial with 59 outpatients with hypercholesterolemia the effect of two different doses of 5.28 and 10,56 g Beta-Sitosterol was compared to placebo. Each treatment phase lasted six weeks. Serum cholesterol decreased on the average under Beta-Sitosterol by 10--13% (p less than 0.05) in correlation with LDL. The triglycerides were not affected; there was a slight increase in the HDL/LDL quotient. The optimal daily dose of Beta-Sitosterol was about 6 gm; the double dose was no more effective.
