    BACKGROUND: Methamphetamine use disorder (MUD) is becoming more of a public health issue in Georgia State, with health and social effects affecting both people and communities. This study aimed to investigate attributes that may affect the accessibility of treatment among the methamphetamine-use population in the state of Georgia.
    METHODS: We utilized the Treatment Episode Data Set - Discharges (TEDS-D) for 2016-2020 in Georgia, comprising participants with MUD (175,270). We utilized descriptive statistics and inferential techniques to ascertain the relationship between variables. Multiple logistic regression was used to control for confounding variables at a 95% confidence interval.
    RESULTS: This study's findings showed individuals aged 25-49 years had 1.8 times higher odds of getting treatment for methamphetamine use compared to those aged 12-24 years (adjusted odds ratio (AOR) = 1.8; 95% CI: 1.50-2.16). Alaska Native individuals (Aleut, Eskimo, and Indian) had 7.07 times higher odds of receiving treatment than Asian or Pacific Islander individuals (AOR = 7.07; 95% CI: 2.02-24.67). Compared to Asian or Pacific Islander individuals, Black or African American individuals had 12.11 times higher odds of receiving treatment (AOR = 12.11; 95% CI: 9.37-15.66), while White individuals had 6.82 times higher odds of getting treatment (AOR = 1.09; 95% CI: 0.86-1.37).
    CONCLUSION: MUD treatment disparity challenges are revealed in our study, emphasizing the critical need for focused intervention programs.

    INTRODUCTION: Bidirectional associations have been reported between sleep disturbance and both cognitive impairment, including Alzheimer's disease and amyloid beta-peptide (Aβ) accumulation. These relationships can be explained by the glymphatic system, which acts as a garbage drainage system in the brain. As interstitial fluid dynamics are suggested to increase during sleep, clearance of Aβ can be influenced by sleep disturbance or deprivation. We hypothesised that using lemborexant, an orexin receptor antagonist, to improve sleep quality would also improve the function of the glymphatic system. We plan to examine the effect of lemborexant on sleep quality and the glymphatic system among patients with insomnia disorder.
    METHODS AND ANALYSIS: This pilot study is designed as an open-label, single-arm, single-centre trial. Thirty patients aged 50 years and over with insomnia will be recruited. The participants will take lemborexant (5 mg) at bedtime for 12 weeks and undergo a home-based sleep study at baseline and weeks 4 and 12, as well as MRI examinations to evaluate the glymphatic system at baseline and week 12. The primary outcome will be changes in objective sleep parameters as evaluated using a sleep monitoring system. The secondary outcomes will be changes in subjective sleep parameters. The relationships between changes in sleep parameters and the glymphatic system will be evaluated using diffusion tensor image analysis along the perivascular space, which is called the ALPS-index. Sleep parameters and the ALPS-index will be analysed using a paired t-test or Pearson's correlation coefficient.
    ETHICS AND DISSEMINATION: The study protocol was approved by Nagoya University Certified Review Board. The findings from this research will be published in peer-reviewed journals and be presented at local, national and international conferences.

    Alternative splicing (AS) of precursor mRNA (pre-mRNA) is a crucial step in the expression of most eukaryotic genes. Splicing factors (SFs) play an important role in AS regulation by binding to the cis-regulatory elements on the pre-mRNA. Although many splicing factors (SFs) and their binding sites have been identified, their combinatorial regulatory effects remain to be elucidated. In this paper, we derive a biophysical model for AS regulation that integrates combinatorial signals of cis-acting splicing regulatory elements (SREs) and their interactions. We also develop a systematic framework for model inference. Applying the biophysical model to a human RNA-Seq data set, we demonstrate that our model can explain 49.1%-66.5% variance of the data, which is comparable to the best result achieved by biophysical models for transcription. In total, we identified 119 SRE pairs between different regions of cassette exons that may regulate exon or intron definition in splicing, and 77 SRE pairs from the same region that may arise from a long motif or two different SREs bound by different SFs. Particularly, putative binding sites of polypyrimidine tract-binding protein (PTB), heterogeneous nuclear ribonucleoprotein (hnRNP) F/H and E/K are identified as interacting SRE pairs, and have been shown to be consistent with the interaction models proposed in previous experimental results. These results show that our biophysical model and inference method provide a means of quantitative modeling of splicing regulation and is a useful tool for identifying SREs and their interactions. The software package for model inference is available under an open source license.

    Accurate quantification of precipitation complexity is vital for assessing the impact of changing environments on precipitation processes and guiding precipitation forecasting. However, previous research mostly quantified precipitation complexity from different perspectives, resulting in differences in complexity results. In this study, the multifractal detrended fluctuation analysis (MF-DFA; derived from fractal), Lyapunov exponent (derived from Chao), and sample entropy (derived from entropy) were used for investigating the complexity of regional precipitation. Then, the integrated complexity index was established by using the intercriteria correlation (CRITIC) method and the simple linear weighting (SWA) method. Finally, the proposed method is applied to China's Jinsha River basin (JRB). The research indicates that (1) the discriminability of the integrated complexity index is higher than that of MF-DFA, Lyapunov exponent, and sample entropy, which can better distinguish the precipitation complexity in the Jinsha River basin; (2) the higher complexity of monthly precipitation was mainly concentrated in the southeast, and the lower complexity was mainly located in the northwest; moreover, the monthly precipitation complexity for the selected study area is the highest at 0.854 at Weixi station and the lowest at 0.152 at Batang station; (3) the superimposed effects of the southwest monsoon, terrain, and reservoir construction have become the main factors that influence the spatial variation of complexity for precipitation. This study provides a new idea for developing an integrated complexity index, and the results are of great significance for regional precipitation disaster prevention and water resources management.

    Flexible thermal radiation films with adjustable broad-band infrared radiation could maintain various heat-generating electronic devices working stably in corresponding operating temperatures, making them good candidates for radiative cooling (RC) material. However, the controllable radiation peaks of the metamaterial were narrow, and manipulation was a time-consuming and complex process. Herein, we design a simple TiN/Si bilayer film with controllable broad-band radiation peaks at a thermal radiation wavelength of 3.5-20 μm by impedance matching. Meanwhile, the different bilayer films applied to aluminum devices at different temperatures exhibit outstanding heat dissipation efficiency and maintain the corresponding equilibrium temperature to ensure that devices work stably for a long time. Moreover, the bilayer films deposited on the flexible PI substrates exhibit preferable thermostability and higher tensile strength than existing radiative cooling materials deposited on PDMS, PE, PMMA or TPX, etc. This work provides an effective strategy to realize efficient radiation cooling for flexible electronic devices and spacecraft appendages.

    Regulation of the exciton generation, diffusion, and carrier transport, as well as optimization of the non-radiative energy loss could further overcome the power conversion efficiency limitation of organic solar cells. However, the relationship between exciton properties and non-radiative energy loss has seldom been investigated. Herein, taking D18-series devices as the research model, the exciton diffusion length (LD) and hole transfer dynamics can be remarkably improved by the variation of electron-withdrawing halogen and the non-radiative energy loss simultaneously can be suppressed. By combining the analysis results of hole transfer, exciton diffusion, charge separation, and recombination, this work demonstrates that the photo-induced exciton in the chlorinated polymer donor can diffuse to a longer distance within the effective exciton lifetime, suppress the exciton recombination, and enhance device performance. The results define the relationship between the exciton behaviors and non-radiative energy loss and further reveal the significance of controlling the bulk heterojunction with superior photo-physical properties.
