    Summary: This volume strives to give oncologists and other medical practitioners a thorough picture of the oncology patient. It's designed to show that psychological needs of the patient are an important aspect that should be considered for optimizing the effects of cancer treatment, no less than genetic, immunological, physiological and other medical features that are often considered as necessary components of personalized medicine. Using evidence-based information, the book describes the different ways cancer touches upon a person's life, including emotional, physical, and social changes, important decisions, and support structure. It also details the phases every cancer patient encounters along the way, from getting tested and waiting for the diagnosis, to treatments, survival, and confronting one's mortality. Psycho-oncology for the Clinician will serve to contribute to the further scientific development of psycho-oncology, expand its use as a treatment modality, strengthen its status as an essential component of cancer care, and promote the acceptance of psycho-oncology as the new evidence-based constituent of personalized medicine in oncology.

    Summary: Chicano people number nearly 13 million, approximately 63% of the total Latino population of 20.1 million, in the US. This large and rapidly growing Chicano population carries the dubious distinction of being the most undereducated of America's numerically large ethnic minority populations. There are indicators that such schooling problems and conditions are worsening. This outstanding and forthright text examines from various perspectives, the school failure and success of Chicano students. The deep roots and broad branches of Chicano school failure indicate that these poor schooling conditions and outcomes are profoundly influenced by institutional forces and structures that promote and maintain inequality. There is also the alternative type of perspective that Chicanos are the makers of their own educational problems. According to this "person-centred" explanation, the intellectual and motivational deficits of Chicano students are believed to be rooted in their inadequate familial socialization. The present volume attempts to push along further a better understanding of what constitutes, maintains and helps shape school failure among Chicano students.
