This paper summarizes the history and evolution of the electroencephalogram (EEG). The EEG, used to record the electrical activity of the brain, is a pivotal tool in neuroscience and medicine. Its history and evolution reflect significant advancements in our understanding of brain function and our ability to diagnose and treat neurological conditions. This tool has revolutionized our understanding of the brain's electrical activity and is the cornerstone for the diagnosis and treatment of epilepsy and related disorders. The evolution of the EEG from early experimental observations to sophisticated modern applications highlights the profound progress in our ability to monitor and interpret brain activity. The EEG remains an invaluable tool in clinical and research settings, continually evolving with technological advancements to expand our understanding of the human brain. This review traces the journey of this iconic tool.

Multiple Myeloma (MM) is a B-cell malignancy characterized by the accumulation of clonal plasma cells in the bone marrow, with drug resistance being a major cause of therapeutic failure. We established a carfilzomib-resistant derivative of the LP-1 MM cell line (LP-1/Cfz) and found that the transcription factor NF-E2 p45-related factor 2 (Nrf2; gene symbol NFE2L2) contributes to carfilzomib resistance. The mechanism of Nrf2 activation involved enhanced translation of Nrf2 as well as its positive regulator, the autophagy receptor sequestosome 1 (SQSTM1)/p62. The eukaryotic translation initiation factor gene EIF4E3 was among the Nrf2 target genes upregulated in LP-1/Cfz cells, suggesting existence of a positive feedback loop. In line with this, we found that siRNA knockdown of eIF4E3 decreased Nrf2 protein levels. On the other hand, elevated SQSTM1/p62 levels were due at least in part to activation of the PERK-eIF2α pathway. LP-1/Cfz cells had decreased levels of reactive oxygen species as well as elevated levels of fatty acid oxidation and prosurvival autophagy. Genetic and pharmacologic inhibition of the Nrf2-EIF4E3 axis or the PERK-eIF2α pathway, disruption of redox homeostasis or inhibition of fatty acid oxidation or autophagy conferred sensitivity to carfilzomib. Our findings were supported by clinical data where increased EIF4E3 expression was predictive of Nrf2 target gene upregulation in a subgroup of patients with chemoresistant minimal residual disease and relapsed/refractory MM. Thus, our data offer a preclinical rationale for including inhibitors of the SQSTM1/p62-Nrf2 pathway to the treatment regimens for certain advanced stage MM patients.

PURPOSE: Physical activity (PA) typically declines throughout pregnancy. Low levels of PA are associated with excessive weight gain and subsequently increase risk of pre-eclampsia, gestational diabetes mellitus, hypertension disorders, delivery by caesarean section and stillbirth. Systematic reviews on PA during pregnancy have not explored the efficacy of behaviour change techniques or related theory in altering PA behaviour. This systematic review evaluated the content of PA interventions to reduce the decline of PA in pregnant women with a specific emphasis on the behaviour change techniques employed to elicit this change.
SEARCH AND REVIEW METHODOLOGY: Literature searches were conducted in eight databases. Strict inclusion and exclusion criteria were employed. Two reviewers independently evaluated each intervention using the behaviour change techniques (BCT) taxonomy to identify the specific behaviour change techniques employed. Two reviewers independently assessed the risk of bias using the guidelines from the Cochrane Collaboration. Overall quality was determined using the GRADE approach.
FINDINGS: A total of 1140 potentially eligible papers were identified from which 14 studies were selected for inclusion. Interventions included counselling (n = 6), structured exercise (n = 6) and education (n = 2). Common behaviour change techniques employed in these studies were goal setting and planning, feedback, repetition and substitution, shaping knowledge and comparison of behaviours. Regular face-to-face meetings were also commonly employed. PA change over time in intervention groups ranged from increases of 28% to decreases of 25%. In 8 out of 10 studies, which provided adequate data, participants in the intervention group were more physically active post intervention than controls.
CONCLUSIONS AND IMPLICATIONS: Physical activity interventions incorporating behaviour change techniques help reduce the decline in PA throughout pregnancy. Range of behaviour change techniques can be implemented to reduce this decline including goals and planning, shaping knowledge and comparison of outcomes. A lack of high quality interventions hampers conclusions of intervention effectiveness.

China's state-level new districts (SNDs) have become the new growth poles for the economic development of the cities where they are located, and a reasonable industrial structure is crucial to industrial sustainable development of SNDs and urban economic growth. This study uses multi-dimensional indicators to measure the convergence level of industrial structure among SNDs and reveals its dynamic evolution trend and formation mechanism. In this context, this study uses dynamic panel model to test the effect of various factors on the convergence of industrial structure. The results are as follows: the advantageous industries in Pudong New District (PND) and Liangjiang New District (LND) are concentrated in capital-intensive and technology-intensive industries. The advantageous industries in Binhai New District (BND) are scattered, and its advantageous industries are distributed in resource-intensive, technology-intensive, and capital-intensive industries. There is an obvious convergence of industrial structure among SNDs, but the degree of convergence of industrial structure among SNDs is different. The result of the regression model shows that the convergence of industrial structure has a significant cumulative effect; investment scale (IS) and government intervention (GI) significantly increase the convergence level of industrial structure, while market demand (MD) and technology level (TL) significantly decrease it. Moreover, the effects of GI and MD on industrial structure convergence are stronger.
