"Often referred to as the mirror of the soul, the face is indelibly entwined with a person's appearance and personality. This presents a particular challenge when reconstructive surgery is required. The goal of every reconstructive surgeon is to repair damage as inconspicuously as possible with minimal scarring while restoring prior function. Jackson's Local Flaps in Head and Neck Reconstruction, Third Edition by renowned plastic surgeons Peter C. Neligan, J. Brian Boyd, and David Mathes honors the two widely acclaimed prior editions of this landmark resource by the late master plastic surgeon, educator, and prolific author Ian T. Jackson. The new edition features updated and streamlined content, simplified references, colorized illustrations, and procedural videos"-- Provided by publisher.

Jatropha curcas, or physic nut, is a small tree that, in tropical climates, produces fruits with seeds containing ~38% oil. The physic nut has the potential to be highly productive and is amenable to subculture in vitro and to genetic modification. It also displays remarkable diversity and is relatively easy to cross hybridize within the genus. Thanks to these promising features, J. curcas is emerging as a promising oil crop and is gaining commercial interest among the biofuel research communities. However, as a crop, physic nut has been an economic flop since 2012, because the species was not fully domesticated and the average productivity was less than 2 t/ha, which is below the threshold of profitability. Nevertheless, hybrids with a productivity of>7 t/ha could be reached and it is contributing to new markets in some countries. As such, it is important fro research to focus on the physiology and selective breeding of Jatropha . This book provides a positive global update on Jatropha, a crop that has suffered despite its promising agronomic and economic potential. The editors have used their collective expertise in agronomy, botany, selective breeding, biotechnology, genomics and bioinformatics to seek out high-quality contributions that address the bottleneck features in order to improve the economic trajectory of physic nut breeding.

The exhibition covers the painter's whole career, from 1980 to 1988, focusing on 120 defining works. With the Heads from 1981-1982, gathered for the first time here, and the presentation of several collaborations between Basquiat and Warhol, the exhibition includes works previously unseen in Europe, essential works such as Obnoxious Liberals (1982), In Italian (1983), and Riding with Death (1988), as well as paintings which have rarely been seen since their first presentations during the artist's lifetime, such as Offensive Orange (1982), Untitled (Boxer) (1982), and Untitled (Yellow Tar and Feathers) (1982). At a young age, Jean-Michel Basquiat left school and made his first studio in the streets of New York. Very quickly, his painting achieved great success, which the artist both sought out and felt subjected to. His work refers back to the eruption of modernity, that of the expressionists, but his filiations are numerous. The acuteness of his gaze, his visits to museums, and the reading of a number of books gave him a real sense of culture. Yet his gaze was directed: the absence of black artists being painfully evident, the artist imposed the need to depict African American culture and revolts in equal measure in his work. Basquiat's death in 1988 interrupted a very prolific body of work, carried out in under a decade, with over one thousand paintings and even more drawings.--Fondation Louis Vuitton website. "Published in conjunction with the exhibition at Fondation Louis Vuitton, this catalogue captures the dazzling career of Jean-Michel Basquiat (1960-1988). Featuring reproductions of all 120 works shown, it provides a unique opportunity to re-examine the oeuvre of this seminal artist. Dieter Buchart, exhibition curator and catalogue editor, explores the existential character of Basquiat's line, among other key topics of investigation. Following a preface by Suzanne Pagé, texts by Okwui Enwezor, Olivier Michelon, Francisco Pellizzi, Jordana Moore Saggese, Paul Schimmel, and Franklin Sirmans expand on the approaches to the artist's work, contextualizing its creation, its importance within the history of twentieth-century art, and its relevance today. They address essential subjects running throughout Basquiat's oeuvre, while placing it within the critical and historical framework fundamental to its understanding." --Publisher's description, lower cover.

This book serves as an anatomic atlas of the nerves that innervate the joints of the human body in a format that also provides technical insight into pathways that both interventional pain management and surgical subspecialists can use to denervate those painful joints when traditional approaches to manage the pain are no longer successful. This book avails the knowledge of how denervation can relieve joint pain available to the many groups of physicians who care for this problem. Each chapter is devoted to a joint and reviews the neural anatomy as it relates to the clinical examination of the patient. Chapters are user friendly and provide details on the indicated nerve blocks and the clinical results of partial joint denervation. Clinical case studies also serve as a helpful guide in each chapter. Extensive intra-operative clinical photographs and photographs from new prosections provide examples to guide those physicians providing care to the patients with joint pain. Joint Denervation: Anatomic Atlas of Surgical Technique should be of interest to surgical subspecialists from Neurosurgery, Plastic Surgery, Hand Surgery, Orthopedic Surgery, Podiatric Foot & Ankle Surgery, and Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeons. It may also interest those physicians trained in Anesthesia, Radiology, and Physical & Rehabilitation Medicine for their evaluation and treatment protocols using hydrodissection, cryoablation and pulsed radiofrequency approaches to pain.

Since the advent of cross-sectional imaging methods, few works have been devoted to pediatric musculoskeletal imaging, and information is especially limited on the skeletally immature joint. Furthermore, reduced emphasis on pediatric training means that general radiologists are increasingly unfamiliar with normal and abnormal imaging findings in children and adolescents. Knowledge of the imaging appearances of the immature joint is, however, crucial for correct image interpretation. This book covers key selected topics in the imaging evaluation of the skeletally immature joint. The opening chapters consider the current role, advantages, and limitations of each modality in pediatric assessment and present the imaging appearances of anatomic and developmental peculiarities of the growing skeleton. Findings in a wide range of important conditions are then described in a series of richly illustrated chapters that document appearances on diverse imaging studies, from conventional radiography through to modern high-tech modalities. By presenting the essential information on imaging of the immature joint, the authors hope to provide radiologists (musculoskeletal specialists and generalists alike) with a new tool that will assist greatly in overcoming the daily challenges posed by interpretation of pediatric examinations in the twenty-first century. The book will also be of interest to all other specialists involved in the diagnosis and treatment of children and adolescents with articular complaints.

Comprised of clinical cases demonstrating strategies for both common and complex knee preservation, this concise, practical casebook will provide orthopedic surgeons with the best real-world strategies to properly manage the many kinds of knee injuries and disorders they may encounter. The opening section presents the knee joint as a unique structure, reviewing the anatomy and function of articular cartilage and the meniscus, the effects of joint malalignment, the role of the synovium, and how joint failure is defined. The next two sections are comprised of clinical cases with a unique presentation, followed by a description of the diagnosis, assessment and management techniques used to treat it, as well as the case outcome, and clinical pearls and pitfalls. Cases included illustrate small and large cartilage defects, osteochondritis dessicans, chondral defects and lesions, meniscal allograft transplantation, and tibial and tibiofemoral cartilage defects, among others. The final section examines the current evidence for the treatment of articular cartilage lesions and emerging techniques in knee joint preservation and cartilage restoration. Pragmatic and reader-friendly, Joint Preservation of the Knee: A Clinical Casebook is an excellent resource for orthopedic surgeons and sports medicine specialists treating common and complex injuries of the knee.

"The purpose of this book is to provide the budding electrophysiologist with an electrophysiologic approach to arrhythmias, which is predicated on the hypothesis that a better understanding of the mechanisms of arrhythmias will lead to more successful and rationally chosen therapy. As such, this book will stress the methodology required to define the mechanism and site of origin of arrhythmias so that safe and effective therapy can be chosen. The techniques suggested to address these issues and specific therapeutic interventions employed represent a personal view, one that is based on experience and, not infrequently, on intuition."-- Provided by publisher.

This book provides valuable insight into emerging trends in healthcare delivery; patient, family and caregiver engagement and the intersection of the two. It is unique in that it not only incorporates patients voice but provides context in the application of patients families and caregivers in healthcare transformation and the future of healthcare models. It is suited toward not only promoting empathy toward patients but also challenging the reader to learn and think about the future of healthcare and the value of patients voice in policy making and decisions about healthcare. It provides valuable information on quality improvement, consumer experience and emerging careers in this area with practical information and interventions. Nurses and other members of the care team play a critical role in the evolving models of care and must stay abreast of emerging trend to ensure that patients needs are met while contributing to meeting the quality and economic goals of the organizations and care settings in which they work. This book will help to ensure that they remain abreast of changing trends in quality improvement, quality measurement, cost, health information technology and patient and family engagement so that they are in a position to lead their teams and organizations. Direct accounts from patients, family and caregivers who want their "voices" heard are incorporated throughout the book.

The book introduces The Joyful Freedom Approach, as a strategy for recovery from fatigue. The integrated, holistic approach has scope for supporting individuals who have experienced energy depletion not just due to cancer and its treatments, but also in relation to other illnesses, conditions or distressing life events. The approach is aimed at helping people to discover what they can do to energise their lives following an event such as cancer that has left them lacking vitality, wellness or a sense of direction and clarity about how to live life fully. Research has culminated in identifying five attributes of energy restorative activities; these are represented by the Energy Restoration Framework. The attributes of Purposeful Expanding, Connecting/Belonging, Awe-inspiring and Nourishing act as headings for discussion, planning and integration into an individual's recovery and beyond. ... The aim of this book is to analyze the scientific biography of Judah Folkman, one of the most important scientists of the last century. More 50 years ago, Folkman found a revolutionary new way to think about cancer. Blood supply, Folkman hypothesized, was the key to tumor growth. Without new blood vessels, tumors simply did not thrive. In 1971, Folkman published his theory of angiogenesis in the "New England Journal of Medicine". Angiogenesis, the formation and recruitment of new blood vessels, is necessary for tumor growth. Critics of the theory were silenced over time as Folkman and his colleagues reported the first purified angiogenic molecule, the first angiogenesis inhibitor and proposed the concept of angiogenic disease. The mechanism of angiogenesis is now a worldwide field of investigation. Over the years, Folkman and a growing team of researchers have isolated the proteins and unraveled the processes that regulate angiogenesis. Meanwhile, a new generation of angiogenesis research has emerged as well, widening the field into new areas of human disease and deepening it to examine the underlying biological processes responsible for those diseases.

"Over 84,000 black and brown lives are needlessly lost each year due to health disparities, the unfair, unjust, and avoidable differences between the quality and quantity of health care provided to Americans who are members of racial and ethnic minorities and care provided to whites. Health disparities have remained stubbornly entrenched in the American health care system--and in Just Medicine, Dayna Bowen Matthew finds that they principally arise from unconscious racial and ethnic biases held by physicians, institutional providers, and their patients. Implicit bias is the single most important determinant of health and health care disparities. Because we have missed this fact, the money we spend on training providers to become culturally competent, expanding wellness education programs and community health centers, and even expanding access to health insurance will have only a modest effect on reducing health disparities. [...] In this book, she unites medical, neuroscience, psychology, and sociology research on implicit bias and health disparities with her own expertise in civil rights and constitutional law. Just Medicine offers us a new, effective, and innovative plan to regulate implicit biases and eliminate the inequalities they cause, and to save the lives they endanger."--Publisher's description.

Inequities and health disparities are the greatest and most pressing social issues of our time. This book explores public health practice through the critical lens of social and structural justice by examining our approach to health and what it means to be healthy, systemically and structurally. Through recent events, the raw reality of health disparities and inequities have been exposed. These events are earmarked by COVID-19's decimating and disparate impacts on Black and Brown populations during one of the greatest social movements of our time to end racism. Since this very public explosion of intersecting forms of oppression and inequitable suffrage, many have clamored to make sense of it, to reframe our narratives toward action, and re-envision what progress and change could look like. This text is positioned as a tool to help professionals dismantle old ways of thinking while reconstructing new ones that can be more responsive in meeting the realities of today. The author challenges the reader to think about public health more deeply and pragmatically as the space for reconciling solutions to these poignant health issues. This requires the exploration of an ideological shift in how we think of health, how we prepare healthcare providers outside of an antiquated sick care system, and how we prioritize the determinants of health across a re-imagined continuum of care. The scope of this book ranges from a historical and structural examination of our beliefs about health to perceiving a more just system of care where health is intentionally co-created toward this aim. It intentionally explores health along the lines of equity and through the broader lens of the social determinants of health to shed light on the opportunity in this moment that public health creates for health care. Justice in Health is a timely and important resource for healthcare professionals (pre- and post-licensure) and healthcare decision-makers. The book also appeals more widely to instructors, academics, researchers, and students across disciplines of nursing, medicine, public heath, sociology, and social work.

Juvenile Nasopharyngeal Angiofibroma is a rare tumor in adolescent males. This book, the first of its kind devoted to the management of this tumor, is based on Dr N. Janakiram's paradigm shifting management technique for these highly vascular tumors. These tumors have always been a challenge for skull-base surgeons globally. Classical approaches for managing them comprised employing the endoscopic approach for small tumors and invasive approaches for large ones. Dr Janakiram's methodology employs the minimally invasive endoscopic approach for all stages of these tumors, except those which have massive intracranial extensions or have extensions into the parapharyngeal space which cannot be accessed by the endoscopic technique. In detailing the new approach, this volume also offers a new classification for different stages of these tumors and explains surgical techniques for managing them. This meets a long-standing requirement as the classification had remained incomplete because of the lack of adequate number of reported cases globally.
