Exploration of the brain from its superior aspect
Lateral ventricle
A large window has been cut in the corpus callosum to provide a view of the lateral ventricle. The contours and boundaries of the anterior horn, body and atrium of the lateral ventricle are shown in relation to structures seen in earlier stages of the dissection.
- Medullary substance of superior frontal gyrus
- Cut ends of superior longitudinal fasciculus
- Anterior horn lateral ventricle
- Temporal part of operculum
- Head of caudate nucleus
- Insula
- Internal capsule emerging to join corona radiate
- Caudate nucleus (tail)
- Artery of central sulcus
- Transverse temporal gyrus
- Lamina affixa overlying thalamus
- Choroid plexus lying in atrium of lateral ventricle
- Cut edge of tapetum
- Occipital part radiations of corpus callosum
- Angular gyrus (dissected)
- Meninges and vessels in depths of parieto-occipital fissure
- Lingual gyrus (cut across)
- Calcarine fissure
- Medullary substance of cuneus
- Frontal pole
- Longitudinal fissure (cerebral vein displaced downward in this area)
- Cingulate gyrus (cut across)
- Cut edge of frontal part radiations of corpus callosum
- Ventricular surface of rostral corpus callosum
- Central sulcus
- Position of interventricular foramen (not visible in view)
- Anterior thalamic tubercle
- Corpus callosum (trunk)
- Choroid plexus lateral ventricle
- Upper surface of fornix (body)
- Cut edge of corpus callosum
- Cingulum (cut across)
- Superior surface of cerebellum (in transverse cerebral fissure)
- Parieto-occipital fissure
