Exploration of a brain cut in frontal section at the splenium of the corpus callosum
Subthalamic nucleus, thalamic fasciculus and cerebral peduncle
The substantia nigra has been scraped out. The subthalamic nucleus (nucleus hypothalamicus) (6) remains in place on the upper surface of the internal capsule just anterior to the location of the substantia nigra and is visible in the depths of the view. Fibers of the thalamic fasciculus (H 1 field of Forel) approaching the ventral lateral thalamic nucleus form the bundle (5) coursing above the subthalamic nucleus.
. Choroid plexus lateral ventricle
. Stratum zonale thalami
. Habenula and retroflex fasciculus
. Ventral lateral nucleus of thalamus
. Thalamic fasciculus (H 1 field of Forel)
. Hypothalamic nucleus
. Position of substantia nigra (removed)
. Posterior cerebral artery (cut across)
. Longitudinal fasciculus (pyramidal) pons
. Tail of caudate nucleus (cut across)
. Stria terminalis (cut across)
. Thalamotemporal fasciculus
. Tapetum
. Fibers within pulvinar passing into retrolenticular part of internal capsule and thalamic branch of posterior cerebral artery
. Lateral geniculate body and geniculocalcarine tract
. Inferior horn of lateral ventricle
. "Alveus"
