Nerve supply to rectus femoris muscle
The rectus femoris (15) has been turned laterally to display its nerve supply and the arteries from the descending branch of the lateral circumflex femoral artery that enter the muscle.
1 . Inguinal ligament
2 . Pectineus muscle
3 . Upper pointer: Femoral artery Lower pointer: Deep femoral artery
4 . Adductor longus muscle
5 . Muscular branch of femoral nerve (to sartorius muscle)
6 . Cutaneous branches of anterior femoral nerve
7 . Muscular branch of femoral nerve (to vastus medialis muscle)
8 . Saphenous nerve
9 . Femoral nerve
10 . Iliacus muscle
11 . Muscular branch of femoral nerve (to rectus femoris muscle)
12 . Muscular branch of femoral nerve (to vastus intermedius muscle)
13 . Transverse branch of lateral femoral circumflex artery
14 . Descending branch of lateral femoral circumflex artery
15 . Rectus femoris muscle (reflected and dissected)
