Dissection of female pelvis from a lateral approach
Levator ani and coccygeus muscles; sphincter ani externus, lateral view
The pudendal vessels and nerves have been cut away to reveal the lateral aspect of the levator ani muscle, the sacrospinous ligament and the coccygeus muscle. The component parts of the sphincter ani externus (13, 14, 15) are also visible.
. Superior gluteal artery
. Sciatic nerve
. Inferior gluteal artery
. Piriform muscle (cut across)
. Inferior gluteal nerve
. Middle cluneal nerve (from dorsal branch of 2nd sacral nerve)
. Coccyx (periosteum removed)
. Sacrospinous ligament (coccygeus muscle fused with ligament, the latter rather indistinct)
. Ischial spine
. Coccyx (tip)
. Levator ani muscle (pointer on pubococcygeal part of muscle)
. Anococcygeal ligament
. Deep part
. Superficial part
. Subcutaneous part (1315 refer to the external anal sphincter)
. Anus
. Longitudinal muscle of anal canal
. Superior gluteal nerve
. Left pointer: Lymph node Right pointer: Margin of greater sciatic notch
. Ala of ilium
. Origin of rectus femoris muscle
. Acetabulum
. Obturator nerve
. Tendinous arch of levator ani muscle (indistinct, see discussion with 158-7)
. Levator ani muscle (pointer on puborectalis muscle)
. Body of pubic bone (partially removed)
. Obturator fascia
. Body of clitoris
