Exploration of liver, gall bladder, pancreas, duodenum and spleen
Uncinate process of pancreas elevated; pancreatic arteries
The inferior mesenteric vein and artery (4,17) and the uncinate process of the pancreas (21) have been lifted to display a part of the vascular supply to the head of the pancreas. Several arterial arches are visible which provide anastomoses between the gastroduodenal artery and branches of the superior mesenteric artery.
  1. Superior part of duodenum (cut across)
  2. Gastroduodenal artery
  3. Duodenal and pyloric branches of gastroduodenal artery
  4. Right gastroepiploic artery
  5. Pancreaticoduodenal branches of gastroduodenal artery
  6. Head of pancreas
  7. Descending part of duodenum
  8. Common bile duct
  9. Hepatic plexus
  10. Portal vein
  11. Proper hepatic artery
  12. Anastomotic branch between gastroduodenal and superior mesenteric arteries
  13. Body of pancreas
  14. Superior mesenteric vein (elevated and cut off)
  15. Inferior pancreatic artery (a branch of middle colic artery in this specimen)
  16. Middle colic artery (cut off)
  17. Superior mesenteric artery (cut off and elevated)
  18. Superior mesenteric plexus
  19. Inferior pancreaticoduodenal artery
  20. Superior mesenteric lymph node
  21. Uncinate process of pancreas (elevated)
  22. Ascending part of duodenum
  23. Straight artery
