The upper lobe has been dissected from its medial aspect and has been retracted laterally.

- Aortic arch
- Superior vena cava
- Pericardium
- Ascending aorta
- Left superior pulmonary vein (note anterior intersegmental branches to upper lobe)
- Pulmonary trunk
- Upper pointer: Left auricle Lower pointer: Latex cast in left inferior pulmonary vein at entrance into left atrium)
- Left atrium (interior visible through openings cut in wall)
- Right atrium
- Left ventricle
- Right ventricle
- Internal thoracic artery
- Left phrenic nerve
- Apex of lung
- Left superior intercostal vein (not tributary accompanying left phrenic nerve)
- Anterior mediastinal lymph node
- Apical branch left pulmonary artery
- Posterior apical segmental bronchus (apical subsegmental branch)
