SOURCE MATERIAL for the writing of History of the Stanford University School of Medicine and the Predecessor Schools.
Dr. Elias Samuel Cooper was the founder in 1858 of the first medical school in California, called the Medical Department of the University of the Pacific. He was the uncle of Levi Cooper Lane, who continued his dedication to medical education over the next forty years. Cooper’s papers are in the California Historical Society Library in San Francisco as MS 458. Dr. Wilson’s transcripts and photocopies of these are filed in his papers.
