The adductor pollicis muscle has been removed. The volar interosseous fascia and transverse capsular ligaments have been cut away to display the interosseous muscles. The first dorsal interosseous muscle has been detached from its origin on the first metacarpal bone. An independent, small muscle (8) remains attached to the first metacarpal. This corresponds in origin and insertion with the regular volar interosseous muscles.
