Course of right axillary nerve

The specimen shown in the previous view has been dissected to illustrate the relations of the axillary nerve. The capsule of the shoulder joint (8) has been detached from the surgical neck of the humerus. The upper part of the humerus has been cut away. Veins have been removed.

2. Acromion of scapula
3. Supraspinatus muscle (tendon of insertion)
4. Upper pointer: Infraspinatus muscle Lower pointer: Joint capsule of humerus
5. Upper pointer: Subcoracoid bursa Lower pointer: Glenoid labrum
6. Glenoid cavity
7. Teres minor muscle
8. Joint capsule of humerus (pointer on area of attachment to humerus)
9. Branch axillary nerve (to teres minor muscle)
10. Triceps brachii muscle (long head)
11. Body of humerus
12. Deltoid muscle
13. Deltoid muscle (clavicular origin)
