The plane of this section passes obliquely upward and forward from the heel to transect the dorsum of the foot through the anterior part of the trochlea of the talus.

1. Inferior extensor retinaculum
2. Extensor digitorum longus muscle (tendon within synovial sheath)
3. Trochlea of talus (pointer on superior surface)
4. Lateral malleolar surface of trochlea of talus
5. Lateral malleolus
6. Subtalar articular space
7. Posterior talofibular ligament
8. Fossa of lateral malleolus of fibula
9. Peroneus brevis muscle (tendon within synovial sheath)
10. Peroneus longus muscle (tendon within synovial sheath)
11. Calcaneofibular ligament
12. Tuberosity of calcaneus
13. Extensor hallucis longus muscle (tendon and muscle)
14. Tibialis anterior muscle (tendon and muscle)
15. Surface of medial malleolar trochlea of talus
16. Deltoid ligament
17. Medial malleolus
