Nerve supply to hamstring muscles

The biceps and semitendinosus muscles have been detached from their origins on the ischial tuberosity to permit them to be dissected. Branches of the tibial nerve and of the medial circumflex femoral artery enter the proximal parts of the muscle bellies.

1. Tendons of origin of biceps femoris and semitendinosus (detached)
2. Ischial tuberosity
3. Adductor magnus muscle (origin)
4. Ascending branch of medial femoral circumflex artery
5. Greater trochanter
6. Quadratus femoris muscle
7. Adductor minimus muscle
8. Perforating artery
9. Lateral intermuscular septum
10. Adductor magnus muscle (insertion)
11. Vastus lateralis muscle
12. Short head of biceps femoris muscle
13. Medial femoral circumflex artery (deep branch)
14. Muscular branch of sciatic nerve (to semitendinosus muscle)
15. Muscular branch of sciatic nerve (to long head of biceps femoris)
16. Muscular branch of sciatic nerve (to semimembranosus muscle)
