Relations of bladder, prostate, seminal vesicle and rectovesical septum and pelvic peritoneum

The bladder, prostate and seminal vesicle have been pulled forward and slightly upward. The rectovesical septum (19) may be seen extending upward from the superior fascia of the urogenital diaphragm between the prostate and rectum to fuse with the under surface of the peritoneum near the bottom of the rectovesical pouch.

1. Lateral umbilical ligament (cut off close to origin from internal iliac artery)

3. Ureter (straightened by slight upward traction)
4. External iliac artery (covered by peritoneum)
5. Ductus deferens
6. Body of urinary bladder
7. Apex of urinary bladder
8. Pubic symphysis
9. Glans penis
10. Upper pointer: Cervix of bladder Lower pointer: Puboprostatic ligament
11. Articular surface of sacrum
12. Superior gluteal artery (cut off)
13. Piriform muscle (cut off)
14. Branch of inferior rectal artery
15. Pararectal fossa (peritoneum intact)
16. Rectum
17. Rectovesical space
