The left bulbospongiosus muscle has been partially removed. The various insertions of the muscle, anteriorly into the suspensory ligament of the penis (14), onto the deep surface of the corpus spongiosum, and onto the perineal membrane (18), have been preserved. The central tendon of the perineum (6) is exposed in the midline posterior to the bulb of the penis. Transversely directed muscle fibers (10) that extend laterally from the central tendon may represent part of the superficial transverse perineal muscle, although they are seen to turn posteriorly to blend with fascia along the sphincter ani externus muscle.
