Notes:

Hi, my name is Kevin and I'm a cataloger.

Does that sound like something you would hear at a twelve step support group?

I say it to emphasize the role that cataloging plays in the library community. Despite its less than glamorous reputation (I've heard some librarians refer to it as nothing more than "sorting socks"), cataloging is a creative and exciting endeavor. In fact, I'd say that cataloging is the foundation on which all other library services are built.

Actually, as you can tell from this first slide, I'm not a cataloger. But I am a cataloger at heart. I say this because in library school I took all the cataloging courses. For five years, I worked my way through graduate school cataloging as a paraprofessional. When I graduated, I looked for a job that would mix my love for cataloging and my desire to program.

I think I've found it working with Lane Medical Library's Medlane project.
