Relations of mesenteric vessels to head of pancreas
The stomach has been retracted upward to show the gastroduodenal artery which passes downward behind the pylorus. Pyloric branches of this artery (4) have been dissected. The course of the superior mesenteric vein and artery in relation to the head and uncinate process of the pancreas has been displayed.
- Common hepatic duct (in dissected liver)
- Pylorus
- Gastroduodenal artery
- Pyloric branch of gastroduodenal artery
- Upper pointer: Right gastroepiploic artery (cut off) Lower pointer: Epiploic branch of right gastroepiploic artery
- Head of pancreas
- Remnant of right border of greater omentum
- Duodenum (covered by connective tissue)
- Stomach
- Body of pancreas
- Jejunum (cut off)
- Middle colic artery
- Duodenal branches of jejunal artery
- Band of peritoneum preserved from earlier dissection
- Superior mesenteric artery (note mesenteric plexus of nerves associated with artery)
- Superior mesenteric vein
- Upper pointer: Pancreaticoduodenal vein Lower pointer: Middle colic vein (right branch)
- Superior mesenteric lymph node
- Uncinate process of pancreas
- Upper pointer: Ileocolic artery Lower pointer: Superior mesenteric artery (ileal branch)
