Dissection of lungs in situ
Right lung.
The right pleural cavity has been opened and the lung has been retracted laterally. The hilar parts of the upper and middle lobes have been dissected.
- Axilla
- Right pulmonary. artery
- Bronchopulmonary lymph node (note lymphatic vessels entering node from region of middle lobe bronchus)
- Branch to middle lobe right pulmonary artery
- Medial segmental bronchus of middle lobe
- Latissimus dorsi muscle
- Serratus anterior muscle (cut across)
- Rib VI (cut across)
- Middle lobe right lung (no visible horizontal fissure separates upper and middle lobes in this preparation)
- Upper pointer: Oblique fissure Lower pointer: Inferior lobe right lung
- Diaphragm
- Rib II
- Upper lobe right lung
- Azygos vein (covered by pleura)
- Right brachiocephalic vein
- Brachiocephalic trunk
- Trachea
- Left brachiocephalic vein
- Anterior mediastinal lymph node
- Internal thoracic artery
- Superior vena cava (covered by pleura)
- Thymus (partially resected)
- Right pulmonary veins
- Sternum
- Right atrium (distended covered by pericardium and pleura)
- Costal cartilage V (cut off)
