All of the thoracic viscera have been removed except those structures which pass through the superior thoracic aperture (thoracic inlet). The pleura and the endothoracic fascia have been excised anteriorly.
  1. Vertebra Th. III (pointer on posterior longitudinal ligament)
  2. Left subclavian artery
  3. Phrenic nerve
  4. Intercostal nerve
  5. Upper pointer: Esophagus (cut off) Lower pointer: Trachea (cut off)
  6. Recurrent laryngeal nerve
  7. Aortic arch
  8. Costal cartilage II
  9. Body of sternum (covered by sternal membrane)
  10. Upper pointers: Internal thoracic veins Lower pointer: Internal thoracic artery
  11. Anterior intercostal branch internal thoracic artery

  14. Sternal part of diaphragm
