The specimen has been turned to expose the posterior aspect of the quadriceps in relation to the femur. The adductor muscles and hamstrings have been removed.
1 . Ischial tuberosity
2 . Quadratus femoris muscle
3 . Iliopsoas muscle (near insertion on lesser trochanter)
4 . Vastus medialis muscle
5 . Medial lip of linea aspera
6 . Popliteal surface
7 . Medial epicondyle
8 . Gluteus medius muscle
9 . Greater trochanter
10 . Sciatic nerve
11 . Vastus lateralis muscle
12 . Lateral lip of linea aspera
13 . Gastrocnemius muscle
14 . Biceps femoris muscle (cut off close to insertion)
