The anterior and superior auricular muscles have been cut away, and the galea aponeurotica and other parts of the frontal and occipital muscles also removed. The superficial temporal vessels and auriculotemporal nerve have been severed.

3. Frontalis muscle
4. Layer of fascia beneath galea aponeurotica
5. Temporal and zygomatic branches of facial nerve
6. Zygomatico-orbital artery
7. Orbicularis oculi muscle

9. Galea aponeurotica
10. Greater occipital nerve
11. Temporal fascia (covering temporalis muscle)
12. Occipitalis muscle (cut across)
13. Auricle
14. Auriculotemporal nerve
15. Superficial temporal vein
16. Superficial temporal artery
