Document Delivery Services

Need Help?

How It Works

  • We provide material when Stanford does not own it or when the title is available only in print format
  • No fee when requesting items not owned by a Stanford Library
  • Search Searchworks, Stanford's main library catalog, to check all libraries before placing your request
  • Articles are delivered as PDF files to your DocXpress account
  • Book loan notification via email for pickup, books are held for 7 days at the User Services Desk
  • Arrival time from other institutions typically 1-3 days for article, 7-10 days for book loan (more time may be required depending on the policy of the lending library)
  • You may keep ILL books for two weeks from receipt

  • NO CHARGE for eligible Stanford School of Medicine students, faculty and staff when Stanford does not own it.
  • We incur costs for Interlibrary Loan service averaging $15.00-$20.00 per item, so please request prudently.
  • Scan on Demand for eligible Stanford School of Medicine students, faculty and staff. For a small fee we will scan articles and books chapters to PDF from materials owned by Lane or any of the Stanford libraries.

Renewals & Returns

  • Renewals are not automatic
  • Renewal policies vary among lenders
  • Books cannot be renewed at the User Services Desk
  • Books should be returned at the User Services Desk
