Interlibrary Loan (for materials from outside Stanford)

DocXpress, Lane's web-based interlibrary loan and document delivery service.

Who is eligible?

SHC, LPCH, and Stanford University School of Medicine staff, faculty and students are eligible to use this service. Also eligible: HumBio undergraduates, Bioengineering/BioX majors.

Other Stanford affiliates, contact Stanford University Libraries Interlibrary Loan Services.

Non Stanford affiliated users can ask their local library to submit an interlibrary loan request. For more information see Lending.

How long will it take?

The typical turnaround time for journal articles is usually 2-3 days. Patent requests may take 3-4 days. Book loans will take a bit longer.

You can indicate the need for a rush request on the form, but also please indicate the date needed by.

How long can I keep Interlibrary loan books?

The loan period is two weeks from receipt.

Renewal requests need to be submitted to the DocXpress staff only. You can submit a request for renewal using you DocXpress account. Log on to your web account and click on "checked out items" option on the DocXpress menu then on "renew request". We will send you an email with a response.Renewals are not automatic, renewal policies vary form one lender to the next. *ILL books cannot be renewed by circulation or via the circulation online system.

How to register:

Click on "First time users: register now" and follow the instructions to create your profile and enter your user name and password.

  1. You will receive and email notification once your registration has been approved.
  2. This is a one time process only.

Forgot your password?

No problem, you do not need to sign up again just send an email to . We will temporarily re-set your password to allow you access to your account and allow you to re-enter your unique password.

Can I get a duplicate copy?

Yes, if you request another copy of an article you will be notified by email. For a fee of $15.00 we can provide you with another copy. Just return your email with your response. If yes, we will bill you at the start of the month for the past month's transactions. Payment options are: personal check, cash or a PTA account: which allows you to charge the fee back to your department.
