Where can I find market data for health care, including research topics?

The problem

You are seeking market data (i.e., commercial use) on:
  • drug usage
  • clinical diagnostics
  • medical devices
  • surgical patient care
  • medical imaging

The solution

In addition to other data sources (e.g., government, international agencies), excellent market data can be obtained from the following commercial sources:
  • Frost & Sullivan: Healthcare provides detailed marketing reports on key sectors in healthcare, including: drug discovery, clinical diagnostics, medical devices, surgical patient care, medical imaging, and many more. Access is available to Stanford faculty and staff only, though non-staff can request that librarians find and forward a report on their behalf. Ask your Lane Library Liaison for details.
  • Mintel: Covers market research on consumer behavior, product innovation and competitive marketing strategies (requires free sign-up account using Stanford email address).
  • Plunkett Research Online: access to industry-specific research portals.
  • Standard and Poor's market overviews (GSB access only).
  • Windhover: a print resource with data on medical device reporting.
These reports typically provide top-level overviews of the topic area which can include hard-to-find information on:
  • incidence
  • prevalence
  • economic burden
  • analyses of revenue forecasts
  • pricing trends
  • emerging markets
