What is the Online Bioinformatics Resources Collection?

What is it?

The University of Pittsburgh's Online Bioinformatics Resources Collection (OBRC) is a curated, Web-searchable collection of bioinformatics tools.

What's in it?

As of this writing, OBRC describes >1,768 bioinformatics databases and software tools.

What is it for?

Identifying a Life Sciences software program or database to support your research.

Unique Characteristics

OBRC shines in providing:
  • a short review of each tool or database
  • comprehensive indexing of biotools

Caveat

Although you are likely to find what you need, your search will likely return large numbers of potentially applicable resources, each of which will require considerable effort to determine its applicability.

Need help?

Two options are available, depending on the type of question:
  1. For immediate answers to simple "point" question (e.g., "does this program run on MS Vista?"), you can contact the Bioresearch Informationist using instant messaging (Stanford affiliate only).
  2. For more involved questions, is much preferred and more likely to return a usable answer.
