Where can I find comprehensive clinical trial data?

The Problem

You are searching for clinical data and have exhausted public sources such as PubMed. Are you done? No! A vast amount of superior-quality data is available through proprietary databases available at the Lane Library on a consultation basis. No exhaustive search for clinical trials is complete without consulting these databases.

Why use these databases?

These databases are essential for:
  • Finding the latest clinical trial data for a compound, condition or indication, whether for compound that is available as a drug, is not yet available on the market, or is a failed drug.
  • Determining whether a trial has ever been performed on a compound, anywhere in the world.
  • Evaluating what other drugs in a particular class are under trial, including by a given manufacturer.
  • Finding information for any compound that has ever been evaluated, including preclinical as well as clinical trial data.

The Solution

Database Content
Pharmaprojects One of the best source of drug pipeline information, including worldwide clinical trials, whether ongoing or failed
NDA Pipeline: New Drugs Another drug pipeline information source. Provides profiles of all pharmaceutical substances designed for the United States market, from discovery through preclinical and clinical trial phases
Adis Clinical Trials Insights Provides evaluative summaries of clinical studies, including comparative treatment outcomes, key messages, results, and clinical and commercial impact of the results. Also provides a score for use a guide to the quality of the trial, study design, and reporting.
Pharmaceutical and Healthcare Industry News Database (PHIND) Another source of drug pipeline information that is more news-oriented

Unique Characteristics

  • These databases are all accessible via the Dialog system, which can search them in parallel and further filter/organize the results.
  • Dialog is an expert-level system that searches properietary databases on a fee-for-service basis. See a Lane Liaison Librarian for a consultation to have your search run.
