What official records, papers, and publications does the Archives collect for the School, Clinic, and Hospital?

Restrictions:
Lane Medical Archives is committed to making the historical record of the School, Clinic, and Hospital as conveniently available as possible to members of the University community, and to visiting scholars. It is therefore the policy to minimize restrictions on access, and to make no agreements that totally restrict access indefinitely (i.e. "sealed records") or that impose restrictions impractical to administer.

The Archives has an obligation to administrative offices to protect the confidentiality of archival records in accordance with their specifications, and with the law and University policy. As a safeguard, all restrictions must be agreed upon with the Archives staff in advance, and specified in writing at the time of transfer of the archival material.

As a general rule, the maximum period of restricted access should not exceed 20 years from the close of the file. "Restricted" is defined as requiring the written permission of the designated University officer for access to a collection, or to a file within a collection. Advice should be obtained from the Legal Office when there is uncertainty about the duration of type of restriction to be required (e.g. in the case of confidential letters of reference, files concerning grievance, disciplinary action, litigation, etc.).
