What is it?
Faculty of 1000 Biology is an online research service that highlights and reviews papers published in the biological sciences, based on the recommendations of a faculty of over 1000 selected leading researchers. The system was designed to provide a rapidly updated consensus map of the important papers and trends across biology.
What is it for?
- Staying abreast of important papers within the biological sciences
- Quickly rating individual papers by the authors' peers
- Highlighting papers on the basis of scientific merit rather than the journal in which they appear; an important complement to the journal impact factor
- Identifying papers of interest in adjacent research areas
- Providing an expert "2nd opinion" (confirmation that something WAS important)

A searchable and browseable database of bibliographic records, each of which is enhanced by:
- structured, authored comments by Faculty members
- a numeric consensus rating, the F1000 Factor
- classification within all relevant bioscience subject areas
- the type of scientific advance it represents
- links to Lane Library's full-text or holdings data
