How can I find biotools (bioinformatics software tools and databases)?

There are thousands of bioresearch databases and software tools, growing continuously. Identifying the optimal resource is therefore a real problem.

Here are selected options:

  • BioWareDB is a specialized search engine with good coverage of the universe of these softwares and databases. Although you are likely to find what you need, your search will likely return large numbers of potentially applicable resources, each of which will require considerable understanding to determine its applicability.
  • OBRC , the University of Pittsburgh's excellent search engine of bioinformatics software.
  • Nucleic Acids Research's annual database survey .
  • Nucleic Acids Research's annual web server survey .
  • Lane's ToolsForYou  RSS feed: get notified automatically when Lane's Bioresearch Informationist has added a tool review.
