Mentored Career Development Opportunities (K awards and more) from NIH: Insights from a former NIH Review Officer
One of the greatest challenges in establishing an academic career is bridging the
funding gap between the early years as a doctoral student, post-doc, or fellow, and
the subsequent ones as an established investigator. This gap has been well recognized
by the NIH and by national (and local) scientific organizations; funding mechanisms
and policies have been established to facilitate this transition. Nonetheless, tight
federal budgets and new award formats can make navigating the early career award landscape
challenging.
Sponsored by the Stanford Cardiovascular Institute and Lane Medical Library, this
session will help fellows and young investigators understand the many different grant
mechanisms available and will propose strategies to optimize chances of success. Both
trainees and mentors will benefit from Dr. Roltsch's expertise gained in his years
as an NHLBI Program Officer.
