Together we will win 2010At the age of 20, a young man tells his story of his diagnosis of testicular cancer, and shares the pains and struggles he endured while undergoing intense chemotherapy and radiation treatments due to his late-stage diagnosis. A true testimony of the importance of talking about the disease in our society, and what happens if testicular cancer gets overlooked for too long. Ian's story stresses that catching the disease when it is in early stages is essential to avoid intense treatments and increase the chance of survival. It is a warning to all young men to be proactive in their own testicular health and learn about testicular cancer, the most common and curable cancer in young men, in order to avoid the fate that Ian suffered. The final chapter includes medical image explaining testicular cancer metastasis, facts about the disease, its symptoms, and how to perform a testicular self-examination.

Toward precision medicine 2011, NCBI Bookshelf"Motivated by the explosion of molecular data on humans-particularly data associated with individual patients-and the sense that there are large, as-yet-untapped opportunities to use this data to improve health outcomes, Toward precision medicine explores the feasibility and need for "a new taxonomy of human disease based on molecular biology" and develops a potential framework for creating one. The book says that a new data network that integrates emerging research on the molecular makeup of diseases with clinical data on individual patients could drive the development of a more accurate classification of diseases and ultimately enhance diagnosis and treatment. The "new taxonomy" that emerges would define diseases by their underlying molecular causes and other factors in addition to their traditional physical signs and symptoms. The book adds that the new data network could also improve biomedical research by enabling scientists to access patients' information during treatment while still protecting their rights. This would allow the marriage of molecular research and clinical data at the point of care, as opposed to research information continuing to reside primarily in academia. Toward precision medicine notes that moving toward individualized medicine requires that researchers and health care providers have access to very large sets of health- and disease-related data linked to individual patients. These data are also critical for developing the information commons, the knowledge network of disease, and ultimately the new taxonomy."--Publisher's description.

Towards cultural psychology of religion 2010, SpringerThis book takes a bold stand: all psychology should be culturally sensitive psychology, especially when studying religious phenomena. It explains that culture is not simply to be conceived of as a variable that possibly influences behavior. Rather, it stresses that cultural patterns of acting, thinking and experiencing are created, adopted and promulgated by a number of individuals jointly. As human subjectivity is different in different cultures, cultural psychology is not interested in comparatively investigating how experiences and behavior, attitudes and social relationships present themse.

Transdermal and intradermal delivery of therapeutic agents 2011, CRCnetBASE"Skin, once thought to be an impenetrable barrier, is an extremely active organ capable of interacting with its environment. Advancements in science combined with the need for diverse drug delivery modalities have introduced a variety of transdermal and intradermal products for existing drugs at a fraction of the cost of new drug development. Commercialization of transdermal drug delivery requires technology from many disciplines beyond pharmaceutical sciences, such as polymer chemistry, adhesion sciences, mass transport, web film coating, printing, and medical technology. A comprehensive discussion of these technologies and practices, Transdermal and Intradermal Delivery of Therapeutic Agents: Application of Physical Technologies, covers: Commercial development of devices and products based on transdermal physical enhancement technologies, Selecting optimal enhancement technology for a specific drug molecule using case studies that cover physicochemical properties as well as practical commercial considerations related to cost, unmet clinical needs, marketing, or intellectual property protection, Technologies such as microneedles, iontophoresis, electroporation, and sonophoresis with examples for delivery of small molecules, cosmeceuticals, proteins, and vaccines, Practical information on experimental procedures and challenges related to skin irritation and safety issues. Up-to-date and accessible to researchers and industry experts, this book provides a comprehensive discussion of the physical approaches and practical considerations for the laboratory and marketplace"--Provided by publisher.
