The accessory pancreatic duct (5) can be traced from its communication with the main pancreatic duct (4) laterally to its point of penetration of the duodenal wall. A major part of the head of the pancreas is drained by the accessory duct, although branches of the main duct are seen to reach the uncinate process and more posterior areas of the head.
