Exploration of the brain from its superior aspect
Stratum zonale thalami; fasciculus retroflexus; tapetum
Dissection of the left thalamus has been commenced by removing the lamina affixa. This exposes fibers in the stratum zonale which follow an arching course posteriorly approximately paralleling the course of the stria terminalis (which has now been removed). These fibers extend into the region below the lentiform nucleus and geniculocalcarine tract where they bend outward toward the temporal lobe (thalamotemporal tract).
