The origins of the internal oblique from the iliac crest(6) and thoracolumbar fascia (14) are visible in this preparation. The external oblique muscle has been resected and the fascia which lay between it and the internal oblique has been removed.
1 . Latissimus dorsi muscle (costal origin)
2 . External intercostal muscle
3 . External oblique muscle (costal origins)
4 . Internal oblique muscle
5 . Thoracic nerve XII (subcostal nerve)
6 . Iliac crest
7 . External oblique muscle (insertion)
8 . Gluteus medius muscle
9 . Costal cartilage XI
10 . Serratus posterior inferior muscle
11 . Costal cartilage XII
12 . Intercostal nerve XI
13 . Branch of thoracic nerve XII
14 . Thoracolumbar fascia (lower pointer indicates area of origin of internal oblique muscle from this fascia)
