The upper lobe has been dissected from its medial aspect and has been retracted laterally.

2 . Aortic arch
3 . Superior vena cava
4 . Pericardium
5 . Ascending aorta
6 . Left superior pulmonary vein (note anterior intersegmental branches to upper lobe)
7 . Pulmonary trunk
8 . Upper pointer: Left auricle Lower pointer: Latex cast in left inferior pulmonary vein at entrance into left atrium)
9 . Left atrium (interior visible through openings cut in wall)
10 . Right atrium
11 . Left ventricle
12 . Right ventricle
13 . Internal thoracic artery
14 . Left phrenic nerve
