Special Situations
Getting Full Text of Articles
The easiest way to get to full text of articles is to use the Lane Search or Clinical Search engines on this site — we've built very streamlined delivery of article full-text into those search engines. Click on the title of any article and full-text is delivered immediately (if it's available).
If you have accessed PubMed from the Lane site, clicking one of these Stanford buttons next to a citation or abstract will deliver full-text of the article if it is available.

If you do not see one of those buttons next to a PubMed citation, you are either accessing PubMed from off-campus and not going through the Lane site, or, Lane has not licensed access to the publication cited. To check if Lane has licensed any publication, do a Lane Search on the name of the publication; if a catalog record appears in the initial results it will detail the issues available online. If no catalog record appears in the initial Lane Search results, click "Print Materials" in the left column of that search. If a catalog record displays it will detail the print (hardcopy) issues of that publication available from Lane. More details available here.
If you have found an article through a search of Google Scholar, and you are on campus, and Lane has licensed that publication, you will see Find It @ Stanford Med or Find It @ Stanford. Clicking those will lead you to full-text if available. If you search Google Scholar from off-campus, you will need to use our proxy bookmarklet to get Lane licensed material — you may be better off using Lane Search from this site.
Delay in Availability of Online Articles
Publishers and providers sometime embargo (delay) online versions of current issues or articles.
Articles are often indexed in PubMed before they are actually available. Check the journal's website for a category such as “Online First™”, “Early View”, or “Articles online in advance of print”. If not yet available, check back frequently.
Use Lane Search to see if we have the journal in print; if not, request your article via DocXpress.
Changed eBook Content
Publishers and providers occasionally change the edition of an eBook, or even replace an eBook with a similar title, without advance notice. If you discover such a change, please contact Lane via AskUs or Lane Chat, so we can help you.
